'FOR YOUR PLEASURE'
18 years after they last toured as a group ROXY MUSIC will once again take to the stage. Telewest Arena Newcastle is delighted to be included as part of this tour with the concert taking place on Tuesday 12th June 2001.
The principal members of the group, vocalist BRYAN FERRY, guitarist PHIL MANZANERA, and saxophonist ANDY MACKAY have agreed to reform for a 50 concert worldwide tour this year.
Formed in 1970 ROXY MUSIC had a fascination with fashion, glamour, cinema, pop art, and the avant-garde, which separated the band from their contemporaries. They released a number of hit singles including 'Virginia Plain', 'Love Is The Drug', 'Dance Away', 'Over You', 'Jealous Guy', 'More Than This' and 'Take A Chance With Me'. They have also had a succession of albums, 'Viva', Siren', Manifesto to name but a few, however the one which immediately springs to mind is 'Avalon', which became their biggest selling album, spending three weeks at the top of the charts and 27 on the US charts. It became the group's only American gold album, and gradually worked its way to platinum status over the years.
Telewest Arena Newcastle's Marketing Director Paul Tappenden said:- "We are delighted to be part of this memorable tour. The return of ROXY MUSIC will certainly be a memorable occasion, an evening of 70's and 80's nostalgia not to be missed".
